CBS Sued over Concept for “The Talk”

James White/CBS via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — An author has sued CBS and Sony Television over the network’s daytime program The Talk, claiming she came up with the concept for the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Angela Wilder says she registered an idea for a show with the Writers Guild of America in 2006 titled “The Mothers’ Hood,” revolving around issues that mothers can relate to.
Wilder says she pitched the idea in 2008 to an executive with Sony Television, but was turned down. However, she claims, her idea eventually led to the launch of The Talk two years later.
The Talk was created by actress and co-host Sara Gilbert.
CBS says in statement, “It’s one thing to get sued over a project that was pitched to us but quite a stretch to be sued over a pitch that was made to somebody else. Ms. Wilder’s alleged offering to Sony played absolutely no part in the creation of The Talk. We’ll vigorously defend this case and expect to prevail.”
Wilder, who authored a book in 2004 about relationship imbalances titled Powerful Mate Syndrome, is the ex-wife of Los Angeles Lakers great James Worthy.
