(CONCORD, N.C.) — Clint Bowyer bolstered himself right into title contention after his victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night in the race for the Sprint Cup championship.
Bowyer took home the checkered flag, his first win of the Chase and career-best third of the season, which pushed him to fourth in the points standings.
“Five races left, and we’re still in contention for a championship,” Bowyer said.
Brad Keselowski ran out of gas with 58 laps remaining, a day after also running out of gas in the Nationwide series.
“It’s blackjack: You’re not going to win every hand,” Keselowski said, who finished in 11th, but still leads the points standings. “When you got a bad deal, you have to try not to have too many chips on the table.”
Denny Hamilin finished in second and sits in fourth, 15 points behind Keselowski in the standings. Jimmie Johnson took home third and is in second in the points standings.
