Dale Earnhardt Jr. Aims for Martinsville Return
Published at(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. could return next weekend and race at Martinsville, according to his sister.
Kelley Earnhardt Miller wrote in a post Wednesday on JRNation.com that Earnhardt is on schedule to test a car early next week. If all goes well, Earnhardt Miller says her brother can race again Oct. 28 at Martinsville.
Earnhardt Jr. missed last weekend’s race and will sit out this weekend at Kansas due concussions suffered in a six-week span.
“If I get myself time to get healed up, I can race for as long as I want to race,” Earnhardt Jr. said last week during his announcement that he’d be sidelined due to concussions. “That’s my objective.”
Earnhardt Miller was with her brother on Tuesday when he went to Pittsburgh to see a specialist at the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program. Earnhardt Jr. sits in 12th, 86 points behind Brad Keselowski in the points standings headed into Kansas this weekend.
If he were to return next weekend, there are four more races remaining in the race for the Sprint Cup championship.
