NY Stoudemire Amare? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1351611199381NBA via New York Knicks(NEW YORK) — Bad news for Knicks fans: ESPN reports that New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire will miss at least the first six weeks of the season after re-injuring his surgically repaired left knee.

Stoudemire received a second opinion over the weekend from Phoenix Suns team doctor Dr. Thomas Carter. Stoudemire spent the first nine seasons of his career in Phoenix. Carter performed Stoudemire’s microfracture surgery on Stoudemire’s left knee in 2005. He determined that Stoudmire needs more time to recover from his latest injury setback.

It is not known yet whether or not Stoudemire will need another procedure or simply rest his knee, but is expected to miss around 6-8 weeks.

Ever since Stoudemire injured his knee back in 2005, there has always been a concern. His knee issues scared off some teams from signing him to the five-year, $100 millon contract that the Knicks wound up giving him. His contract is also uninsured.

In 47 games last season, Stoudemire averaged 17.5 points per game, his lowest mark since the 2005-2006 where he averaged 8.7 points per game in just three games.
