Thompson was injured in the second quarter of a win against the University of Miami last weekend after he made a leaping catch on the sideline.

“He’s what’s right about college football,” Fisher said, “but this game takes no prisoners.”

Thompson was the leading rusher for Florida State this year, totaling 687 rushing yards through the team’s first seven games.  He averaged 7.55 yards-per-carry.

Saturday marked the second time in two seasons that Thompson suffered a terrible injury.  He broke his back last year in a game against Wake Forest and missed the final eight games of the season.

Thompson was on pace to become the first running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since 1996.

Florida State (7-1, 4-1 ACC) will be forced to lean on two sophomores to carry the rushing load, Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr.

The Seminoles are currently No. 12 in the BCS rankings and No. 13 in the Associated Press poll. They are set to host Duke this upcoming weekend.
