According to Renck, Giambi “remains a candidate for the Rockies manager job until he’s ruled out.”

Jim Tracy recently resigned as the team’s manager after a 64-98 season, which was one of the worst in franchise history. Giambi is expected to interview for the position with team officials at some point over the next week.

Even though Giambi has never been a manager on any level, he has served as a team leader as well as mentor for the young Rockies player. Renck says that Giambi has spent the past three seasons as a “coach-in-training.”

The 41-year old Giambi has spent the past three seasons with the Rockies, primarily as a bench player. He has said to have been a positive influence on the clubhouse and could be a successful manager based off the relationship he has with players.

The former 2000 American League MVP hit .225 with one home run in 60 games with the Rockies this past season.
