Donvan, who plays for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy, hurt his knee in last Saturday’s match against Real Salt Lake. He was carried off the field, but was able to eventually walk to the locker room on his own.

The following day he felt good and cancelled his MRI, but Tuesday at the nationals team camp, the team’s medical staff ruled his injury had not healed.

“Landon was very optimistic over the weekend when his knee was feeling much better, but now he needs time to recover,” head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said.

Team USA is on the road at Antigua and Bermuda Friday, and will play Guatemala in Kansas City on Oct. 16.
