Best hasn’t played since Oct. 16, 2011 when he suffered his latest concussion of his football career. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Best will be undergoing a battery of tests this week to see if he can be cleared to get back on the field.

The running back has seen multiple doctors, and won’t be cleared until a consensus is reached that it’s safe enough for him to resume football activities.

The 23-year-old has dealt with many head injuries including at least two concussions last season, which caused him to play in just six games. He suffered one in the preseason and at least one in the regular season. He also suffered at least one significant concussion during his final season at California.

Detroit could certainly use Best back in their lineup. The team ranks near the top in the NFL in passing yards per game, but near last in rushing yards per game.
