Best hasn’t played since October 16 against the San Francisco 49ers. He suffered a serious concussion during his last season at California, which caused some teams to be weary of drafting him coming out of college.

After playing in 16 games during his rookie season in 2010, Best played in just six games last season due to suffering multiple concussions. The team was hopeful Best would be able to return this season, but doctors would not clear him to get back onto the field.

“After today’s consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to play at this time,” Lions general manager Martin Mayhew told reporters. “Throughout this entire process we have always placed the highest priority on what is best for Jahvid from a health and safety standpoint.”

Best has been ruled out for this sesason, but some fear that Best may never play football again.
