(IDAHO FALLS, ID)  —  As the Memorial Drive road construction project draws to an end, the final stages of the redesign and upgrade will necessitate a brief closing of the popular roadway.  The project, started on July 8th, is expected to be completely open for public traffic by November 5th.  Starting this Friday (October 19th) however, the scenic drive will be completely closed to through traffic to expedite the final grading and paving process and the completion of the roundabout.  The closed section will be from the corner of Memorial Dr. and Broadway through “F” Street and will include the Riverside Dr. intersection.

With the impending winter season approaching and the road construction season coming to an end, the expanded construction schedule and brief closing will allow for the popular road project to finish before harsher weather is expected to return to the area this year.

Commenting on the upcoming closure, Idaho Falls City Engineer Kent Fugal stated, “This final, concerted effort will allow the city to finish the project before the winter weather arrives and will be a significant improvement of the historical roadway.  We are very excited to see this project finished and are looking forward to the improvements it has incorporated in our road system.”
