Miguel Cabrera Becomes First Player in 45 Years to Win Triple Crown

Ed Zurga/Getty Images(KANSAS CITY) — Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera on Wednesday night became the first player since 1967 to win Major League Baseball’s Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown, which requires a player to lead his league in batting average, home runs and RBIs, was last accomplished by Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame outfielder Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
Cabrera finishes the season with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBIs. He becomes the 14th player in baseball history to achieve the feat, and the ninth player in the American League to do it.
Only Ted Williams and Rogers Hornsby have achieved the Triple Crown twice.
