Howard made it through Wednesday’s practice without any setbacks. When the team traded for Howard, there was a real possibility that he’d miss the start of the season. Now, the team is hoping he can come back and be ready for game one of the regular season.

“I don’t know when he’s coming back or whatever,” Lakers head coach Mike Brown said. “As much as he’s practicing, to me, he’s back.”

Howard has yet to be cleared to participate in 5-on-5 full-court drills, according to team spokesman John Black. The former Defensive Player of the Year Award winner will continue to be monitored by the Lakers’ medical staff.

“Just waiting for the doctors, the trainers and Dwight to clear him, and when that happens, he’ll go out full tilt,” Brown later added. “But he looks good out there, he does.”

In his first eight seasons in the NBA, Howard has averaged 18.4 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
