Mitt Romney Leads President Obama in Poll of Likely Voters
Published at(WASHINGTON) — A national daily tracking poll gives a wide lead to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Gallup’s daily tracking survey now gives Romney a seven point lead among likely voters — with 52 percent support to Obama’s 45 percent.
It’s Romney’s widest lead since Gallup began tracking the views of “likely voters” earlier this month. But this week, the Obama camp suggested Gallup’s likely voter model is “deeply flawed,” pointing out the poll gives the president a one point lead, among registered voters.
These numbers represent a steady climb for Romney in the past couple of days. On Wednesday, Gallup had Romney up by six points. On Tuesday it showed him up by four percentage points.
This latest Gallup poll covers the dates of Oct. 11-Oct. 17, which means it is only capturing one day of post-debate sentiment. A full post-debate sample will become available on Tuesday (Oct. 16-22).
