Manager Davey Johnson will no longer be under contract with the team once the playoffs end, but hopes to get another shot at a World Series with the team.

“Is there some unfinished business? Yeah, there’s some unfinished business,” the 69-year-old told the Washington Post. “But that’ll be up to ownership. That ball is in their court. I don’t have a bad feeling, and I don’t mind waiting until November like last year.”

The Nationals were up 7-5 with two outs in the ninth inning before losing to the St. Louis Cardinals 9-7 in dramatic fashion.

Johnson also told the newspaper that he and general manager Mike Rizzo have already talked about him returning next season, but the final decision is ultimately up to management.

Johnson took over the Nationals in the middle of last season, and went 138-107 over that span.
