NBA to Build Sports/Entertainment Complex In Beijing
Published at(NEW YORK) — The NBA is becoming more and more of a global game. The New York Times is reporting that the NBA will build a sports/entertainment complex in Beijing, China.
The NBA recently held a preseason game between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers, and they’ll meet again in Shanghai this weekend. The NBA also has a league office there as well.
“The N.B.A Center — a basketball extravaganza that will include a gym and an N.B.A. -themed cafe, a restaurant and a store as well as an interactive gaming area and a children’s zone — will be placed at the center of a $1.5 billion, 8–hectare, or 2,000-acre, property development being built by a Chinese company,” the paper reported.
After the Untied States, China is the second-biggest market for the NBA. The league is trying to reach a more international audience, and this would be a step in that direction.
League officials have said that if this complex is a success and the market continues to grow in China, we could be seeing more of these types of complexes in China.
