No. 9 LSU Edges No. 3 South Carolina 23-21.
(BATON ROUGE, LA) -- No. 9 LSU got back on track with a 23-21 win at home against the No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks.
The teams traded leads throughout the game, but LSU took the lead for good when freshman running back Jeremy Hill scored on a 50-yard touchdown run with five minutes remaining.
The Gamecocks (6-1) got to within two when Connor Shaw hit Bruce Ellington with a one-yard touchdown pass with under two minutes remaining, but they suffered their first loss of the season after Shaw was intercepted by Craig Loston at the LSU 31-yard line with 11 seconds left.
LSU (6-1) outgained South Carolina in total yards 406-211 but were unable to find the endzone on several occasions. They settled for field goals on three different drives to keep them in the game.
Quarterback Zach Mettenberger struggled, throwing for 148 yards and an interception.
Marcus Lattimore had a quiet game for the Gamecocks, rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
