The Nittany Lions (4-2, 2-0 Big Ten) were trailing by 11 points entering the fourth quarter. The furious comeback was led by quarterback Matt McGloin, who scored on a 5-yard run with 2:37 left to put Penn State on top 32-28. He also threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns for the game.

The loss was the first of the season for the Wildcats (5-1, 1-1 Big Ten), who were trying to go 6-0 for the first time in 50 years. They struggled offensively in the first quarter, but took advantage of a Penn State turnover on a muffed punt and put together two scoring drives to go up 14-10 at the half.

After giving up a Nittany Lions touchdown to go behind 17-14, the Wildcats ripped off 14 straight points capped off by a 75 yard punt return from Venric Mark in the third quarter. From there, the Penn State defense was stifling against a Northwestern team that had 704 yards of total offense against Indiana last week.

For Penn State, they have won four in a row after an 0-2 start under first-year head coach Bill O’Brien.
