Prehistoric Shark Tooth Found in Monsanto Mine

(POCATELLO) – Workers at a Monsanto phosphate mine in southeast Idaho recently unearthed a set of fossilized shark teeth. Experts say the teeth are from a prehistoric shark known as a Helicoprion. The shark was prominent in the area when it was covered by seas 250 million years ago. The Idaho Museum of Natural History on the Idaho State University campus is home to 29 of the 100 known Helicoprion fossils in existence.
