Sandys/The Washington Post via Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — The Washington Redskins are optimistic rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III could play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a mild concussion on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

“We should find out in the next few days exactly what happens,” Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Monday. “Right now it looks good. I’m not really sure if it stays that way. The professionals will monitor his situation and let us know if able he’s able to play or not. We surely have nothing to do with it.”

Griffin could participate in a cardio workout on Tuesday and practice on Wednesday if he does not experience further concussion-like symptoms. He also will be evaluated by the team doctor and an independent neurologist.

After a mandatory meeting for rookies on Monday morning, fellow quarterback Kirk Cousins said Griffin was “in good spirits.”

Griffin was hurt on a legal hit near the sideline by Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon in the third quarter of the Redskin’s loss.
