After winning it all in 2010, the Giants ripped the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 of the NLCS to return to the fall classic, winning its record-tying sixth elimination game of the postseason and rallying from a 3-1 series deficit.

“These guys never quit,” team manager Bruce Bochy said. “They just kept believing and they got it done.”

Heavy rain started to fall in the late innings, but after the final out was recorded it was not going to stop the Giants from celebrating.

Shortstop Marco Scutaro, acquired from the Colorado Rockies in July, was named NLCS MVP after batting .500 with 14 hits and 4 RBI’s in the series.

The Giants led from start to finish, racing out to an early lead and never looking back.  Outfielder Hunter Pence hit a broken bat two-run double in the third inning to give his team a 5-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Matt Cain struggled, but was just sharp enough to get the job done.  He held a powerful Cardinals lineup to just five hits in five and two-thirds innings.

The Giants will take on the American League champion Detroit Tigers, with Game one set for Wednesday night in San Francisco.
