Storm Forces Late Night Programming to Adapt

ABC/MICHAEL DESMOND(NEW YORK) — Superstorm Sandy didn’t spare Hollywood on Monday.
According to Deadline.com, multiple New York-based TV series suspended production Monday in anticipation of the storm, including Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, 30 Rock, Law & Order: SVU, Smash, and 666 Park Avenue.
The Los Angeles-based ABC late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! is in New York this week, and though Kimmel said on Good Morning America Monday morning that his shows would go ahead as scheduled, he later announced that Monday’s taping was cancelled.
“Though it pains us to do it, JKL from #Brooklyn tonight is cancelled,” Kimmel tweeted. “I’m disappointed too, but we want you to be safe.”
Tapings of the Comedy Central shows The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were cancelled. Repeats aired instead. The status of Tuesday’s shows will be evaluated as the storm progresses.
CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon taped without a studio audience. Reportedly, they’ll do the same Tuesday.
What a difference a day makes. On Tuesday, all three late night talk show hosts will do their shows in front of audiences. Still, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert still won’t return to their Comedy Central posts Tuesday.
