“Taken 2,” “Frankenweenie” Open Nationwide; “Pitch Perfect” Expands

Taken 2: Liam Neeson is back as the man with the “very particular set of skills,” retired CIA operative Bryan Mills.  This time, he and his ex-wife are kidnapped by a crime lord seeking revenge for Mills’ killings in the first movie.  Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen also star.  Rated PG-13.  [Click here to read a review]

Frankenweenie: Tim Burton’s animated film revolves around a boy who brings his dog back to life.  His scientific achievement ends up bringing chaos to his town.  The voice cast for the film, which is screening in 3D, includes Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Catherine O’Hara.  Rated PG.

And expanding into wide release:

Pitch Perfect: Anna Kendrick is a college student who, after arriving at her new school, reluctantly joins a diverse singing group that’s involved in a music competition.  Brittany Snow, Anna Camp and Rebel Wilson also star.  Rated PG-13.
