(POCATELLO) – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Idaho has set an annual record for collecting more than $84 million in fines and restitution, among other penalties. U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson of Pocatello says the amount is 10 times more than her office’s annual budget. Most of the funds raked in this year came from a $77.4 million fine paid by Hecla Mining Co. in northern Idaho. She says more than $3.2 million was collected from criminal fines, of which more than $850,000 was distributed to crime victims.
