LOUIS) — St. Louis Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings of one-run ball, as the Cardinals defeated the San Francisco Giants 8-3, to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven NL Championship Series.

Wainwright, who only lasted 2 1/3 innings in his last start against Washington Nationals in the NLDS, allowed only four hits and struck out five in the win.

“I just wanted to stay confident,” Wainwright said. “I believe in my ability. I know I have the stuff to go out there and pitch a great game. It was important for me not to get to down about last game, come out here and be ready to take the ball from the first pitch on.”

Game 5 is Friday in night in St. Louis. The Cardinals will send Lance Lynn to the mound. He will be opposed by Barry Zito.

The Cardinals are looking to make it to their second straight World Series.
