Tied at 24 heading into overtime, both teams missed chances to come away with the victory.  First, Rams rookie kicker Greg Zuerlein made a 53-yard field goal, but the team was hit with a 5 yard delay of penalty.  Zuerlein tried again from 58-yards but missed it wide right.

49ers kicker David Akers missed a 41-yard field goal try in overtime after making a 33-yarder with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 24.

The Rams (3-5-1) led for most of the game before 49ers running back Frank Gore scored on a 20-yard touchdown run to give San Francisco (6-2-1) a 21-17 lead.

Sam Bradford hit receiver Austin Pettis with a two-yard score with 1:09 remaining to take the lead before Akers tied it and sent the game to overtime.

49ers quarterback Alex Smith left the game with a concussion in the first-half.  He was hit on the back of the neck by 49ers lineback Jo-Lonn Dunbar, but was able to stay in the game for a few more plays.  He completed five straight passes including a touchdown to receiver Michael Crabtree.

Smith was replaced by backup Colin Kaepernick, who rushed for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
