Afghans Testify in Hearing of US Soldier Accused of Massacre

ABC News(KABUL) — Some of the Afghans who were wounded or witnessed the attacks on two villages have been testifying at the hearing for the U.S. soldier accused of having carried out the massacre that left 16 Afghans dead.
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, charged with the March 11 massacre of 16 Afghans including children, got up from his chair in the courtroom at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and moved closer to the video screen with a live link to Afghanistan.
Bales showed no discernible emotion as he listened to Khamal Adin describe how he’d found his cousin’s mother lying dead in a doorway, a gunshot to her head. Further inside, he found the bodies of six of his cousin’s seven children. Their bodies were piled together and burned.
Prosecutors say Bales wore a t-shirt, cape and night vision goggles when his slipped away from his remote post and embarked on the attacks. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
