(NEW YORK) — Wednesday’s edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the host’s hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y., featured Kimmel welcoming his comedy idol David Letterman.
While the interview was what you may expect from an admitted Letterman fanboy — Kimmel showed Letterman pictures of his Late Night birthday cake and his first car which had a vanity plate reading “L8 Night” — it also included Letterman wishing Kimmel luck in his move to an earlier time slot that will put him opposite both Letterman’s Late Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
“I wanna wish you the best of luck when you move the show. I think it will be exciting, I think you’re going to be perfect at 11:30…I think it’s going to be great, and I couldn’t be happier to have you in the running,” Letterman told Kimmel.
ABC is moving Jimmy Kimmel Live! to the 11:35 p.m. time slot on Jan. 8. ABC News’ Nightline will shift to 12:35 a.m.
During Wednesday’s show, Kimmel kept insisting that he and Letterman hang out, something the notoriously private Late Show host is reportedly hesitant to do with many celebrities. When Letterman admitted he likes fly fishing, Kimmel invited him on a fly fishing trip with pal Huey Lewis, but Letterman didn’t take the bait.
“Just move in with me for a month,” Kimmel pleaded, after Letterman turned down offers to join a Wiffle or softball team.
