Dwight Howard had 28 points and seven rebounds, while Kobe Bryant scored 15 to lead the Lakers to a 108-79 thumping of the Detroit Pistons.

The win improved the Lakers to 1-3 on the season while the Pistons fell to 0-3.

“We had to stop the bleeding, and there wasn’t a way to do it other than coming out here tonight and getting a solid win,” said forward Pau Gasol, who scored 14 points. “We’ve got a little bit of tension out of ourselves right now.”

The Lakers were off to their worst start to a season in 34 years, but they took their frustration out on the Pistons, who never led and trailed by as many as 36 points in the third quarter.

Jonas Jerebko led the Pistons with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Point guard Steve Nash missed his second straight game with a bruised leg.
