Idaho Beef Production Cut in Half
Published at | Updated at(POCATELLO) – Officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture say Idaho’s beef production has been cut in half in the past year.
Local News 8 reports the drop is due in large part to the closure of a major packing plant, but other factors are still in play. A hot, dry summer led to significantly smaller herd sizes.
Experts say feed shortages are also impacting drought-stricken areas of the midwest, which will likely cause a dramatic cost increase in beef products for everyday consumers.
