(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims sky-rocketed last week in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
For the week ending Nov. 10, the number of people filing for benefits jumped by 78,000 to 439,000 — the highest total since April 2011. The previous week, claims stood at 361,000.
The four-week average also went up, increasing by 11,750 to 383,750.
