“Do not believe a lot of the things you read,” Preston says in an upcoming appearance on the talk show The Doctors, according to People. “[Jett] was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki Syndrome.”

Preston told The Doctors‘ Dr. Travis Stork that she blames Kawasaki Syndrome — the autoimmune disease Jett was diagnosed with — for the boy’s autism. On the program she also says that she believes that her “fast and hard” labor and use of antibiotics while breastfeeding were factors in the boy’s autism.

“I strongly believe as a mother, as does my husband, that there are certain contributing factors that lead to autism and some of it is very much the chemicals in our environment and in our food.”

Preston’s husband is John Travolta, and Jett was the eldest of their three children.

On the episode, Preston also discusses living with an organic lifestyle in an effort to help empower parents to be surrounded by fewer chemicals.

Jett Travolta died while with his vacationing with his family at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. The 16-year-old had suffered from a seizure and hit his head in a bathtub. The cause of death was ultimately attributed to the seizure.

Preston, 50, and Travolta, 58, are also parents to Ella, 12, and Benjamin, 2.
