Michigan stopped 24th-ranked Northwestern on a fourth down in overtime after a touchdown run from quarterback Devin Gardner to complete a wild 38-31 win at Michigan Stadium on Saturday.

Trevor Siemian tossed a touchdown pass to Tony Jones with 3:59 left in the fourth quarter to give the Wildcats (7-3) the lead, and forced a Michigan interception on the next play. However, Gardner got the ball back one more time and set up a game-tying field goal with two second left after a 53-yard completion to Roy Roundtree.

In overtime, Gardner ran it in from a yard out for what would prove to be the winning score. Gardner was starting for the second straight week in place of injured quarterback Denard Robinson. He completed 16 of 29 throws for 286 yards and two touchdown passes.

Siemian went six of seven for 89 yards and a touchdown in relief of starting quarterback Kain Colter, who came out for ineffectiveness and then for injury.

Michigan (7-3) needs Nebraska to fall out of the top spot in the Legends Division to grab first place, as they hold the tiebreaker over the Wolverines.
