(COEUR D’ALENE) – A northern Idaho duck hunter died Wednesday when his boat capsized on a cold lake.

Authorities said Dwayne Knapton, 52, of Osburn, died of hypothermia after his boat flipped over.

Knapton and a friend, who were not wearing life jackets, were left stranded in the near freezing water for over 45 minutes until they were rescued by Fish and Game officers in an airboat.

Knapton was airlifted to a Coeur d’Alene hospital where he passed away. Knapton’s friend was treated at the scene.
