Nets Top Knicks In First New York City Rivalry Game

Deron Williams had 14 assists and the new-look Brooklyn Nets beat the crosstown New York Knicks 96-89 in overtime at the Barclays Center on Monday night.
“It was absolutely fantastic. It was a great game for the fans,” Nets center Brook Lopez said.
Lopez scored 22 to lead the way for the Nets, but the team got a big contribution from Jerry Stackhouse, who hit a three-pointer with 3:31 left in overtime to put Brooklyn (9-4) up to stay.
The game, which was a makeup of the season opener postponed by Hurricane Sandy, was back and forth throughout. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks (9-4) with 35 points and 13 rebounds, but was not a factor in the overtime period.
“They’re across the bridge. They’re here in Brooklyn. We’re in the city. They’re in the same division, the same sports town. I guess you can say this started something,” Anthony said of the new rivalry.
