With the win, the Pistons (1-8) leave the Washington Wizards (0-7) as the only team in the NBA without a win.

“It was really important because we needed it,” Monroe said about the team getting its first win. “As a team, we thought it was long overdue. A lot of games, we could’ve won, so tonight we just wanted to come out and do a good job for 48 minutes.” Which is what the Pistons did — the team never relinquished the lead from the end of the first quarter on.

Kyle Singler scored 16 points in his first start of his career, and Brandon Knight had 15 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for Detroit.

Detroit will look for win number two Friday, when it hosts the Orlando Magic.
