Police, Volunteers Search Lakes for Missing Colorado Boy
(DENVER) -- Police and volunteers have searched a Colorado lake for a 13-year-old boy after cadaver dogs picked up a scent that led them to the edge of the water.
But the latest development in the week-long hunt for Dylan Redwine failed to find the boy or his body.
Seven divers from New Mexico State Police searched Vallecito Lake through the weekend after the dogs followed the scent to the lake, according to ABC News affiliate KMGH-TV.
In addition, more than 30 volunteers, who met on the Find Missing Dylan Redwine Facebook group, searched areas near Forest Lakes Sunday.
Since he was reported missing last week, volunteers have handed out fliers and knocked on doors looking for any clues on his whereabouts.
Redwine disappeared last Monday from his father’s home in Vallecito, Colo., during a one-day court ordered visit, according to KMGH.
Redwine’s father, Mark, told police that his son was in his home when he left to complete some errands at 7:30 a.m. When he returned four hours later, the boy was missing.
Police are working with the FBI and considering all scenarios ranging from abduction to runaway.
“We know some people are upset that we are even considering the possibility that Dylan may have run away. But we are working for Dylan and we owe it to him and to his family to consider every possible scenario that could have caused him to drop out of sight for a week,” Public Information Officer Dan Bender for La Plata County Sheriff’s Office told KMGH.
“To disregard any potential circumstance could cause us to overlook a possible clue that will lead us to Dylan,” said Bender.
Redwine lives with his mother and brother in Colorado Springs, about 25 miles from where he disappeared on Nov. 19. Redwine’s parents divorced in 2007.
A postal worker reported possibly seeing Redwine in Vallecito the day he was reported missing with another boy, reported KMGH.
Redwine is described as 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes and fair complexion. He was last seen wearing a black Nike shirt, black basketball nylon shorts, black Jordan tennis shoes and a two-tone blue and white Duke Blue Devils baseball hat.
