The Rockies though, would still like Giambi to join the team’s coaching staff if he retires.

Despite no managerial experience, the 41-year old Giambi was a serious candidate for the job. While he has said he would like to keep playing if he didn’t get the job, he may reconsider his position. Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd would like to bring Giambi on as the team’s hitting coach.

“We consider him a Rockie, we hope this is a spot he will consider,” O’Dowd told the Denver Post. “He was very impressive in his interview for hte managerial job.”

Giambi would likely have to sign with another team if he decides to play a 19th season in Major League Baseball.

The 2000 American League MVP, Giambi has hit 429 career home runs during his time with the Athletics, Yankees, and Rockies.
