Russia Sent 200 Tons of Cash to Syria: Report
Published at(MOSCOW) — New evidence emerged Monday of Russian support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
According to flight manifests reviewed by investigative reporters at ProPublica, a Syrian military plane ferried more than 200 tons of cash from Moscow to Damascus over the summer, transfers that may have helped the Assad government weather an economic crisis caused by the ongoing conflict and international sanctions.
In unrelated remarks, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow would remain neutral in the conflict. He also criticized France’s decision to recognize the Syrian opposition.
