(NEW YORK) — There’s a silver lining to Tuesday’s announcement of the nominees for the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards, honoring the best in independent film.
The critically-acclaimed Bradley Cooper-Jennifer Lawrence film Silver Linings Playbook tied Moonrise Kingdom for the most nods, with five apiece. Both are contenders for best feature, best director and best screenplay.
Cooper and Lawrence are both up for lead acting awards.
Beasts of the Southern Wild, starring a potential Oscar nominee in 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, picked up four nods. She earned an acting nomination, too, and tells ABC News Radio, “If I don’t win, at least I came here and got nominated. That’s all that happened.”
The director of the film, Benh Zeitlin, adds, “The amount of support we’ve been getting…it’s been other-worldly. It’s really wonderful.”
The 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony will take place in Santa Monica, Calif., on Feb. 23 and will air on tape delay that evening on IFC.
