Sixty Percent of Largest US Cities Smoke Free

Indoor smoking bans are now law in 60 percent of the nation’s 50 largest cities, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It’s a dramatic increase since 2000, when only one large city — San Jose, California — forbid smokers from lighting up.

Besides reducing second hand smoke, studies show the laws also help encourage smokers to quit.
