Timberwolves’ Brandon Roy Out Indefinitely, Needs Knee Surgery

NBA via Minnesota Timberwolves(NEW YORK) — Brandon Roy’s comeback season has taken a hit. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard is out indefinitely and will need to undergo right knee surgery next week, according to the Oregonian.
Roy’s NBA career was nearly ruined because of knee injuries. This will be his seventh knee surgery of his basketball career even though he’s just 28. This will also be Roy’s fifth knee surgery since entering the NBA in 2006. There is no timetable for his return.
Roy was a three-time NBA All-Star during his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. In December 2011, he had to medically retire from the NBA because of arthritic and degenerative knees. He signed a two-year deal with Minnesota during the offseason in an attempt to resume his once promising career. Roy knows his basketball future is in question once again.
“I wouldn’t be disappointed either way,” Roy told the paper. “If it end in three weeks, it ends. It’s over. I’m totally satisfied with what I’ve done. I know the sacrifice and effort that I put into coming back. It took a lot of discipline to get to where I am, that’s all I care about: how hard I’ve worked.”
Roy played just five games with the Timberwolves before having to be shut down. He averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 assists per game.
