Against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, Rush leaped in the air for a dunk, but landed awkwardly and his knee bent badly. After undergoing an MRI, it was revelaed that Rush suffered the injury in his left knee. He is expected to need around nine months in rehab to recover.

“It’s a tough time,” Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said on Saturday. “It’s a blow for us, no question about it, because we lose our best perimeter defender. Some teams your probably don’t have to address when something like this happens, but this is an extremely close-knit group, and you could tell they were affected as soon as it happened.”

Last season, Rush averaged 9.8 points per game as a key reserve for the Warriors. Aside from his defense, Rush also shot .452% from the 3-point range, which was sixth best in the NBA.

During the offseason, Rush signed a two-year deal with the Warriors for $8 million.
