In addition to the MCL tear, McGahee also fractured the bone in his lower right leg.

According to Broncos coach John Fox, McGahee will not need surgery and the team will not place him on the injured reserve list.

He will be on crutches for about a month but should be able to return if the Broncos make the postseason.

McGahee is the Broncos’ leading rusher this season with 167 carries for 731 yards and four touchdowns.

Backup running backs Ronnie Hillman and Lance Ball are expected to shoulder the load in McGahee’s absence.  Former first-round pick Knowshon Moreno could also get some carries.
