Zoo’s Sloth Bear Pregnant

(IDAHO FALLS) – The Tautphaus Park Zoo welcomes new baby animals each year, and another one is on its way.

Zoo staff members said Pria, a 370-pound sloth bear, is pregnant with one or two cubs. Officials aren’t quite sure when Pria will give birth, though gestation is usually around six to seven months.

The fictional “Baloo” in Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” made sloth bears famous more than a century ago. Once found throughout India and Sri Lanka, the species has been reduced to an estimated population of 7,000 to 10,000.
