Alabama Holds Off Georgia, 32-28, Wins SEC Title
Published at(ATLANTA) — Alabama (12-1) will have a date with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS title game come January. The Crimson Tide held off Georgia (11-2), 32-28 on Saturday to win the SEC title and advance to back-to-back BCS Championship games.
AJ McCarron’s 45-yard connection with Amari Cooper with 3:15 remaining put Alabama up 32-28, which turned out to be the back-breaker for Georiga.
Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray still had a chance to win the game for his team but a flat pass to Chris Conley marked him down at the four-yard line as time expired.
“We couldn’t handle their pass rush so we struggled to throw it, offensive line did a great job, runners did a great job,” said Alabama head coach Nick Saban. “We made a big play when we needed to. Georgia’s got a great team.”
Crimson Tide running back Eddie Lacy finished with 181 yards on 20 carries, including two TDs. His teammate and fellow running back T.J. Yeldon had 153 yards and a touchdown.
