(BOISE) – Idaho Republican Rep. Scott Bedke of Oakley has been named House speaker in the state legislature.
Bedke was elected after a secret vote ousted Rep. Lawrence Denny, who held the post for six years.
House Majority Leader Mike Moyle was re-elected, as were all the incumbents in leadership positions in the Senate.
Experts called Bedke’s victory as House speaker a “victory for pragmatic conservatism” that stood in contrast to Denny’s hard line on party loyalty.
