Blanton Signs Two-Year Deal With Angels
Published at(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Joe Blanton has agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
Blanton becomes the second starting pitcher the Angels have picked up this offseason. Last week they traded with the Atlanta Braves for starter Tommy Hanson.
The soon-to-be 32-year-old Blanton, went 10-13 with a 4.71 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP last season with the Phillies and Dodgers. He also pitched 191 innings striking out 166 batters while walking only 34.
The signing makes it less likely that the Angels will retain the services of starter Zach Greinke who is being strongly courted by the Dodgers and Rangers.
