Hamdeen Sabahi, who leads the National Salvation Front, made it clear that if voters approve the constitution, Morsi’s opponents will do what’s ever possible to make sure it is not enacted.

There had been talk that the National Salvation Front and other similar groups might boycott the referendum but decided against doing so, instead preferring to work with the realm of Egypt’s fledgling democracy that critics allege Morsi is trying to undermine.

A boycott could still happen though if the National Salvation Front says judicial supervision and monitors are lacking on Saturday when Egyptians go to the polls.

Actually, voting by Egyptian expatriates began on Wednesday, although participation by the 2.7 million living abroad is expected to be scant.

Meanwhile, a planned meeting on Wednesday involving Morsi, his Cabinet and the president’s critics that was organized by the Ministry of Defense was cancelled due to a general lack of interest.
