(TEMPE, Ariz.) — The Arizona Cardinals will start Brian Hoyer at quarterback Sunday in their season finale against the San Francisco 49ers. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced the decision Wednesday.
Hoyer, who joined the Cardinals this season after spending the last three seasons as a backup for New England, will be making his first start of his career.
He played in the second half of the Cardinals loss to the Bears last Sunday, completing 11-of-19 pass attempts for 105 yards.
“He’s been in the league, he’s a veteran guy,” Whisenhunt said. “He did a nice job in last week’s game and this is an opportunity to see what he can do with a week of practice and where he can go from there.”
Hoyer will become the fourth different quarterback to start for Arizona this season.
