(CHICAGO) — The Chicago Cubs and third baseman Ian Stewart agreed to a one-year contract worth $2 million on Monday. The deal is contingent on Stewart making the opening-day roster.
In 55 games last season with the Cubs, the 27-year-old Stewart batted .201 with five home runs and 17 RBIs. His season ended in mid-June when he underwent wrist surgery.
The Cubs acquired Stewart along with pitcher Casey Weathers from the Colorado Rockies late last year for outfielder Tyler Colvin and second baseman D.J. LeMahieu.
Stewart could also earn another $500,000 in incentives from the team.
